Going Bananas

One of my favorite little girl memories was having sleepovers with my friends.  I had one friend whose house was always so much fun to stay over at.  They had an old trunk in the garage with lots of crazy clothes that we would play dress up with, and the family always watched movies with big bowls of homemade, stovetop popcorn.  So good!
And, if I was lucky the older sisters would make us frozen bananas!
To this day, I can't eat a frozen banana without thinking of this great family.

And they are soooo delicious!  I like to think of them as sort of a healthy desert because it is a banana, afterall!
I remember them to be really easy to make... I am going to give it a shot this weekend.
Wish me luck!

Ingredients
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 6 popsicle sticks or wooden skewers
  • 2 bananas, peeled and cut crosswise into thirds
  • 1/3 cup coarsely chopped salted peanuts

Directions

  1. Place chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over (not in) a pan of gently simmering water. Stir just until melted.
  2. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Insert a popsicle stick in one end of each banana piece. Dip banana, one piece at a time, in chocolate, spooning on additional chocolate to cover.
Sprinkle each banana with peanuts, and set on prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate until chocolate is firm, 20 minutes, or up to 3 days.
* recipe from Martha Stewart
Martha says to use peanuts as a topping, but I think walnuts, coconut, sprinkles, mini Reeses, just about anything, would be good on top.  And wouldn't they be a great healthy-ish Halloween desert?!  Orange sprinkles on top! Voila!

Let's Watch Some TV!

I am so happy that my shows are back on!  Here are my top 4 shows this fall...

I am majorly obsessed with Flipping Out.  Jeff Lewis, Jenny, and Zoila just make me so happy- I am constantly catching myself smiling and laughing at the TV.  Love that!  And the stuff that Jeff says... I adore him!

One of my new favorite shows as of last fall is Up All Night.  I love the cast, the story lines, and that it hits so close to home.  Will Arnett is just the cutest!  I really like how the are portrayed as "real" people with "real" problems and how the characters are flawed and don't look perfect all the time. It's nice to have a show that I can relate to- and that my husband likes too!  All that I wonder is- who is watching baby Amy half the time??
You can also see their mid century modern TV house on Casa Sugar.
We all know that I am a long time, devoted Housewives fan.  I watch them all, but I do have my favorites.  Beverly Hills tops my charts- I can't wait for them to come back and see what will unfold this season!
I do have to add that for the first time since the Housewives started, I stopped watching RH of New Jersey half way through this season.  It has become the Teresa show and it is just too stupid to continue to watch.  Andy Cohen- do you hear me??  Time for a recasting in Jersey!
The Cast For the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 3

Law and Order SVU is coming back on Wednesday and I can't wait! As a long time Law and Order fan, the series never disappoints.  And last season was left on such a cliff hanger with the chief being framed for murder- I'm so excited!!!  But, I will admit, I really miss Stabler and it's just not the same without him.

Sleep with Baby Dee Dee

Thanks to one of my dearest friends I discovered the best sleep sacks made by
They call them Sleep Nests and they truly are like a little nest for your birdie to be cozy and sleep soundly in.  I love the simple designs with snaps at the shoulders and glow in the dark zippers.  They come in a lite version as well, but I bought the regular version since we are headed into cooler months.

I feel like I have tried so many different brands of sleep sacks- Halo, BabyGap, Aden & Anais, and they all have their drawbacks.  I was most recently disappointed with the single layer muslin ones that we have been using all summer because they have all ripped at the shoulders...  Not good and they aren't inexpensive!
One of the other big pluses to Baby Dee Dee is that they are very long and almost act more like a sleeping bag with their duvet feel.  For a long baby like I have, it has been hard finding sleep sacks big enough.  These are sure to last quite a while!
Love the Baby Dee Dee!

Bunk Rooms

Perfect for kids young and old- bunk rooms are the best!
Nothing is more fun than giggling with friends at bed time about nonsense- does one ever get to old for that?!

Bunk Rooms

Amazing bunk beds!!

I wouldn't mind staying in any of these rooms- just as long as I don't have to sleep on the top bunk and everyone promises to wake up at the same time as I do!

Toy Storage

The toys seem to keep multiplying (and getting bigger) as my Baby J gets older.  I seem to be forever on the look out for good toy storage- something functional and cute.
I came across some really cute options on Garnet Hill- not one of my usual sites that I check out, but I'm glad that I did... They have some cute things!

Stay JCrew Warm

JCrew has some seriously cute kids jackets out right now.  I love a bright coat on kids, especially on the boys since their clothes tend to be a bit more muted.  On the greyest winter day- every kid should have a warm and cozy coat to bundle up in!
Some of my favorites are:

Vintage Camping Chic

If you have dreams of waking up under the stars in Big Sur, but are not really a get-your-hands-dirty kinda girl (or guy), this might be the right "camping" situation for you.

A 22-foot vintage 1965 Airstream Safari.

Isn't she a beauty?!
You can get the whole "camping" feel minus the tent, hard ground, and mysterious animals rummaging through your food at night. Vacation Rentals United States exterior

Not my favorite color scheme, but not too bad for a campsite!

It seems like the right solution for couples out there that are not both totally down with nature.  Check it out and so many other amazing unconventional vacation rentals at Boutique Homes.
*disclaimer- I have never camped in this Airstream or used the website for booking- so try at your own risk!

Honey Boo

I've never been boo'ed before- but I think it sounds very fun and neighborly.  It reminds me a little bit of the chain letters that I used to get when I was a kid- but way more fun!
Maybe this Halloween season I will consider giving it a try- and if I do, I am definitely going to use the free printables on the Anders Ruff website.

Boo Sign on Door
I would love to open the door to find a cute gift like this one.
Boo Sign in Basket
Isn't that a pretty wreath hanging on this door?!  Love it.
Boo Sign on Door
The cute tag that you include to hang on the door can be found here.
And there are instructions that you print and include to tell your (Honey Boo) Boo what to do.  Doesn't it kinda seem like fun?!

So tell me- have you ever been Boo'd?  What did you give and receive at your door?  Was it welcomed or a bit of a nuisance to have to keep it going??

Please share!

Serena and Lily Love

Serena and Lily has some really cute new things.  I am loving some of the throw pillows and bedroom accessories for kids rooms right now- they would really perk up a room and bring in some fun!

New Parents

Thanks to my Facebook mama friends, I was fortunate enough today to read an article on new parenting advice.  With a 1 year old- I am definitely still in that boat and still finding ways of making it all work.

It is called: My Advice to New Moms: Anything But Babywise by JJ Keith.

Time Out

Couldn't you just sit all day in this teepee?!
Next summer I am going to have to have a teepee in the backyard-
it seems to be a theme on my Pinterest.
I think every kid in my neighborhood would want to start playing (and napping) in our yard...
Doesn't it just look so inviting and cozy?!

It's Good To Be Home

What a crazy and hectic past couple of weeks!  We just moved from California to Colorado a week ago and are finally getting settled in to our new home.
As someone that has moved 20+ times since I turned 18- I am no stranger to packing and unpacking- but this time doing it with my little bambino was more challenging.  It took a lot of planning, help from family and friends, and several glasses of wine to get me through- but we couldn't be happier to be in our new home!  (and to finally have our Internet working!!!)

I finally am able to hang the Wayne Thiebaud (a Sacramento artist- my hometown!) poster that I have had sitting since before Jackson was born in his room... It suddenly transformed his room from a nursery to a "big boy" room.
 *sigh*
But, I love it in there and he points at it- so I know he likes it too!

My mom was here visiting this past week- helping us get settled- which also meant shopping for the random things that you need when you move into a new space...
We hit up West Elm for some fun accessories and necessities.

I love these vases to fill the void on my mantle right now.

The metallic silver tray looks great on my bathroom counter-

We also took a couple trips to The Container Store- I think I could spend hours in that store- there are so many fun things to buy, but my favorites were some new acrylic organizers for my makeup
Large Stacking Acrylic Trays
and a hanging jewelry organizer to de-clutter my jewelry box and to see what I own

No major purchases yet, but I'm doing lots of daydreaming about the goodness to come!
