Green Goods

I have mentioned before how much I love Green Sprouts and iPlay, so I was super happy to find some new bibs today for my little one at Whole Foods.  We have used these washable bibs for the past six months and they are still as good as new- but it is time for a change...
I still believe that these bibs are the best.  Forget about the ones at Pottery Barn Kids or Target, they are not worth the laundry they will require.
I was these in the sink with a sponge and soap and hang them to dry- and they are ready for the next meal.

I also saw a really cute backpacks that would be great for a little one that is off to daycare or preschool- of course I love the lion, but they are all really cute

And while we are at it, why not throw in an ice pack so your kids don't have to eat warm yogurt for lunch.  I saw so many kids eating warm yogurt at recess when I was teaching- it made my stomach churn...

Happy First Birthday!

Today is my baby's first birthday!
I can't believe it has already been one whole year since he came into our lives.  He is a joy every day- and his birthday party this weekend was no exception.  He just soaked up all the attention and we all had so much fun!

Jackson wore a really cute custom T-Shirt that I bought on Etsy from Harper's House

We had a wonderful fruit basket cake from Freeport Bakery that was just delicious.  My mom had prepared all sorts of wonderful food- and we toasted Jackson with J champagne.
Freeport Bakery did a really cute whale design to match the theme.

When it came time for us to sing "Happy Birthday", Jackson was over-the-moon happy!  He knew it was his special moment... Beyond cute!
I also ordered a birthday banner on Etsy from Bekah Jennings.   I especially like this one because it can be used again since it is not theme or age specific like so many others.  In fact, I have a feeling this banner may be making appearances at the next family birthday party.

Overall, it was probably the most fun birthday party I have ever been to!  Seeing my baby so happy, and sharing the day with our family and dearest friends was the perfect way to celebrate my bambino's first birthday!

Off to Camp: Part 2

To continue with the camp theme that is happening at Land of Nod, it is only right to share some of the best camp(y) goods.
I am really starting to consider a camp theme for my sons room as he gets older... it would be such a fun and different feel from most kids rooms I see- and so boyish!

Off to Camp: Part 1

Every summer my parents signed my sister and I up for camp(s).
We always seemed to go to some sort of day camps at our local parks or schools (like Camp Have a Lot of Fun), but the best ones were always the overnight camps we would ship off to for a week at a time with our friends.  We especially loved Camp Minaluta...
It was everything that summer camp is supposed to be- canoeing, sleeping under the stars, cheesy camp songs, teenage counselors, candy contraband = total bliss for young kids.

When I saw the new Land of Nod American Kitsch Collection- I knew that I am exactly the person they are marketing towards.  My heart skipped a little beat and I went back to my happy (camp) place...
Here are some photos from the shoot taken at Camp Wandawega- I
am also now completely obsessed with this place...
(I feel like we will need a family vacation there someday!)

Dinner Time

My mom made the best pasta out of the Cooking Light magazine- so I came home and replicated it- and it was a huge hit with my husband and his buddy.
Even if you are not a wizard in the kitchen, I am sure you can do this one!
We try not to eat too much pasta, so when we do- I want it to be really worth it.  This was worth every carb and calorie!
Fettuccine with Tomato-Cream Sauce Recipe

Fettucini with Tomato-Cream Sauce

  • 8 ounces uncooked fettuccine- (I used bucatini or linguini)
  • quarts boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons coarsely chopped garlic
  • (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, drained and crushed
  • 3 ounces 1/3-less-fat cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup oil-cured olives, pitted and coarsely chopped- (I used pitted kalamata from an olive bar)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1/4 cup small fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 ounce Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, shaved
  1. Preparation
  2. 1. Cook pasta in 4 quarts boiling water with 1/4 teaspoon salt for 8 minutes or until noodles are almost al dente. Drain pasta through a sieve over a bowl; reserve 1 1/3 cups pasta cooking water.
  3. 2. Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add oil to pan; swirl to coat. Add garlic; cook 2 minutes or until very fragrant and tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and tomatoes; cook 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in reserved 1 1/3 cups pasta water; bring to a boil. Add cream cheese; stir until smooth. Add pasta, olives, and red pepper; cook 3 minutes or until pasta is al dente, tossing to coat. Divide pasta mixture among 4 shallow bowls; top each serving with 1 tablespoon basil. Divide Parmigiano-Reggiano evenly among servings.

Baby Donatella

I just about died when I saw these looks from Versace.  I am thinking these looks were not created for babies that live around the SF Bay...  But you gotta love Donatella for thinking these are great for babes!

What do you think? Would you put your little girl in that gold mini??

Time to RELAX!

We were in Denver for the past few days and saw some cool people at the park picnicking with RELAX Wines
They said that the are actually pretty good wines- I love them because of the name and the cute bottles!
I will have to pick a bottle up next time I go to BevMo! or Target.

Making Up!

I spent some time yesterday browsing the stores at Stanford Shopping Center- if you have never been there, it is probably one of the prettiest places there is to shop... Whomever does the landscaping is unbelievable- I guarantee you will be amazed!

I have been a bit uninspired by the clothing out right now- a great time to shop a sale, but a lousy time to find anything new.
Anyhow- I found myself, yet again, veering towards Sephora and the makeup and accessories at Nordstrom.

At Sephora I found a couple new goodies to throw in my bag...
Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel
I have been using the Lancome brow gel or brow "mascara" as I like to call it.  But the sales girl turned me on to the Anastasia one and I actually like it better.  I like how the gels make my brows actually stay in place as well.
Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil
I'm a girl that rarely wears eye shadow- so this is the perfect solution for me.  It is essentially a crayon that is fool-proof in giving your lids a little pick-me-up.  I like that the lighter shades actually brightened my eyes...  Good for this tired mama!
NARS - Lipstick
Nars Lipstick in Cruising
NARS - Lipstick
Nars Lipstick in Niagara
The NARS lipsticks are some of my favorites- I have been wearing Niagara all the time- it is the perfect summer pink- just bright enough!  I also love Cruising for a good basic.
Chloe Eau de Parfum Spray
I haven't bought a new perfume in a while- but the next time I do it is going to be Chloe.  My best friend brought it for me to wear on my wedding day, so it holds a special place with me... But it smells amazing as well!

What's new in your makeup bag/routine?? I am always looking for new things to try!

Same Same?

Yesterday while shopping at Whole Foods, I saw yet another Native Shoes look-alike.  This time it was iPlay that had done a copy- and I have to say they were pretty cute.  I still love the originals more than the others- I just can seem to squeeze Baby J's little potato feet in them yet!

Lake Tahoe Recap

We are back home after a fantastic Tahoe vacation!
It was the perfect combination of all the things I love... sunshine, beach time, adult beverages, morning walks, playing with our baby, shopping, good food, and great company!
What more can I ask for in a summer vacation!?

If you have never been to Lake Tahoe- there are so many things to do and places to go.  One spot that is always on our list is Sunnyside.  The picture below was the view from our table.   It is the best deck on the lake and worth a visit every time.

The picture below was taken at the beach at Meeks Bay.  We decided to hang out there because there was actually some shade to sit under. Jackson was really into playing in the water even though it is freezing!!
We walked every morning and stopped at The Dam Cafe for coffee.  It is the best coffee spot in town- their pastries and sandwiches/burritos looked incredible, and it is swarming in the morning with locals.  It is located right next to Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City.
The Dam Cafe

My sister and I have been shopping at Fine 'N Funky since long before I was even big enough to fit in their clothes... It is a bit of a Tahoe City shopping institution- disregard the sales girl eating Cheez Its on the sales floor and shop away!

If you have kids little girls, then shopping at Ruffles and Ruffnecks is a great stop.  It is in the Cobblestone Shopping Center and has really darling clothing and accessories.  If you have a son- don't bother- there is hardly anything for boys... (boo).

Some other places we love are: Rosie's Cafe, The Bridgetender, and Lakeside Pizza.
Do you see a theme?  We love to eat and drink?!

I just spotted these chairs at Pottery Barn Teen and I think they would be great in a bedroom or pretty much anywhere.  And they are on sale right now for $278.  What a steal!

Bemz + IKEA

I just found a company that kinda blows my mind.
A brilliant woman created a company that sells custom slipcovers for all sorts of
IKEA furniture.  Are you kidding me?!  That is genius!!!

We have gone through, and still have, our share of IKEA furniture
and it is actually quite well made and good looking.
In fact, our large WHITE sectional is the Ektorp sofa that I have a love/hate relationship with.  The only reason we could possibly have a white sofa with a baby is because it is slipcovered and I can bleach it.  But I will say that I am very bored with the options that IKEA offers- therefore ready for an upgrade to a real "adult" couch.

Now that I have found Bemz, maybe we will be holding onto our couch for just a bit longer- since it can have yet another new look with a new cover.

Hair DO

Recently I finally purchased a new hairdryer and I can not stop talking about it to anyone that will listen!  It is maybe the best purchase I have made in a long while...

Let me introduce to you the Biolonic Bio Ionic iDry Whisper Light Pro Dryer
Bio Ionic iDry Whisper Light Pro Dryer
Biolonic Hair Dryer
I feel like the way I style my hair has completely changed because of this hair dryer.  My hair is so smooth and soft when I am done- I no longer feel like I need to use my flat iron or curling iron after to smooth it out.  And it dries my hair so fast.  Love that.

The lady that sold it to me at Peninsula Beauty swore that it was worth every penny and that she uses the same one at home- and she was right. I am obsessed and can't believe I used my heavy, archaic one for so long.  If you are in the market for one, or have had the same one since high school- go out and get this one.  You can thank me later.

Happy Fourth of July!

Just wanted to wish you and yours a happy and fun Fourth of July (a day early)!
We took a couple pictures in the backyard-
Jackson is wearing a very patriotic ensemble by Janie and Jack.
Now looking at them, I wish I had put him in his red wagon and then on the lawn... Oh well!
We are still not completely sure what we are getting up to tomorrow- a midweek holiday isn't the best...
But whatever it is that you decide to do-
Have a very happy and safe holiday!!
