Carmel Weekend

We are taking off to spend the weekend with my family in Carmel, (or as my sister and I like to call it, the Shire!).
I am looking forward to hitting up some of our favorite spots like:

Paloosh and GBG for amazing shopping
A.W. Shucks for oysters (that I just started liking) and margaritas
Brophy's Tavern for too many drinks and making new friends
Anthropologie- just because it's there and I love the courtyard by the dressing rooms
Pacific Grove- perfect for tide-pooling like when we were kids

Most of the places that we drop into, I don't even know their name...
We mostly take lots of long walks all through the back streets of Carmel, finding hidden gardens and tucked away shops.
I am hoping the weather will be nice enough to take Baby J to the beach to play in the sand and mostly just enjoy the time with my family.

Happy Fourth of July weekend!!

Summer Time

I have never been someone that writes in to companies to complain about products.  But since becoming a mom, and hearing about other moms doing it, I have actually taken the time to contact companies about faulty products.

Almost a year ago we bought a Summer Day & Night Video Monitor.  While I thought it was fine, it always bothered me that it made such a racket and we could never leave the volume on (which totally defeats the purpose).  When I saw a friend had the same one and hers didn't make any noise- I decided to call the company.
With one phone call, Summer kindly offered to replace my monitor for a newer version!!
And now instead of the Day & Night,
Secure Sight Handheld Color Video Monitor
We absolutely love the new monitor!  It doesn't make any static noise, has a great, clear picture, and the monitor is much smaller than the old one.  We couldn't be happier!

The point of this lengthy post is that:
1.  I will 100% buy Summer products again because they stand by their products and have great customer service.
2.  It is worth taking the time to contact companies about their products- most of the time they will do something to make the consumer happy.  (Especially when it comes to moms and their baby products!)

Rolling Down the Street...

Someday when we are "real" grown-ups I dream that we will live in the type of neighborhood that has a big Fourth of July bike parade every year.
In my mind it will look just like it does in Martha Stewart's world...

While Jackson is still a wee bambino he will ride in a decorated wagon...
Everyones bike will be totally decked out in red, white and blue.  All the kids will of course have vintage bicycles to decorate as well.  There will not be any plastic, pink, or Disney characters present!  (wink, wink*)
The day before the parade all the kids will stop by our front lawn for a big decorating party - it will be the annual kick-off to the Fourth of July festivities!
When it comes time for the parade all the kids will be smiling, and the parents will be following behind, while the neighbors have lined the streets cheering and taking pictures.

The day will of course end with friends gathering in each others backyards for BBQs and swimming.

Thanks for sharing in my Fourth of July daydream!
Now on to making real plans for the 4th...

Busy Being a Mom

Busy Philips and her daughter Birdie were recently featured on The Glow.
I loved seeing her daughters room and just how normal and not designer-y it is.  The comfy striped couch is perfect for the play space- and how awesome is that print of John Lennon!?
How cute are these birdhouses?! I love them grouped together and it would be such a fun summer craft.  I think I've seen them being sold at Michaels or Joanns.
I also love how Busy admitted that getting back into shape post-pregnancy is a pain!  She said she gained 80 pounds and it took her at least a year to drop it... I get so tired of seeing celebs that have babies and what seems like a week later they are tiny again.  It IS a pain to get back into shape and takes a lot of work!!  Cheers to Busy!!

Zoli Love

Have a teething baby?
You have to get the Zoli Baby Gummy Sticks Gum Massager for your baby.
I wish I had bought them long ago- Baby J is obsessed with chewing on it.  It seems like is is so soothing for him to munch on them.  He is so happy!
The best $10 I have spent in a long time!!

Skip Hop To It

After reading the new 2012 baby checklist on Stroller Traffic, it is even more obvious to me that Skip Hop is leading in making a broad range of amazing baby products.  I have loved my (very popular) Versa Diaper Bag and the Pronto! Changing Station that permanently stays in the car for emergencies since my baby was born.  And, how fun that they collaborated with Jonathan Adler to make new patterns and designs!!
But Skip Hop has so many new and cool things- what will they think of next!?

Some of my top picks include:
Memory Foam Stroller Liner-  Not only does it give the bambino's a little extra cushion, but it  helps keep the stroller clean.

Mate Stay-Put Mat + Plate- my child thinks it's funny to throw the bowl on the floor, this seems like it will keep the bowl in place with less mess.
Pink Lattice- Complete Sheet- Now that bumpers are a major no-no (even though we still have one!), there are adorable sheets that give the extra bit of style that the bumper provides.  I love this pink lattice for girls!
Playspot Interlocking Foam Tiles- If Jackson's play area where hard wood, I would buy these in a second! I love that they come in five different colors, both muted and bright, and that you can buy additional tiles and connectors to accommodate the size of the play area. Genius!

Jackson's Favorite Things

My baby Jackson is just about 10 1/2 months old now.  Here are some of his favorite things:

I have been giving him a Zoli straw sippy cup for the past couple of months hoping that he will start to drink out of it instead of just chew on the straw, and just yesterday he did it!  Now he wants to drink water instead of eat his food.

My baby loves his poofs (aka Puffs).  I buy either the Plum Organics or Happy Baby- I would like to think they have more nutritional value than just eating Cheerios.  He would eat the entire container if I let him...

Jackson is on the move all day long- so when we are out he is wearing his Pedipeds.  He instantly looks like a big boy when we put them on- and as of late- he like to chew on them.   He wears them daily and they have held up very well.
Pediped Piers Original Navy
I love putting J in shorts and tees, but there is still something so adorable and easy about putting him in a romper.  Gap does them so well, I am sad that we are nearing the end of the romper days.  I will miss him looking like a little baby...
Gap Striped Pique Polo Romper
We found these great instruments at the Giggle store in Walnut Creek and Jackson loves them.  He actually likes to crawl around the house with them.
Mini Orchestra

The best toy that we have is a hand-me-down from a friend.  It provides so much entertainment because of the mirror- I can't imagine any baby not loving it.  The songs are cute and not obnoxious like some other baby toys- I actually really like them!

Kira Kids

I am totally into the Kira Kids clothing designed by an awesome local auntie!  Kira's tees are some of the cutest I've seen in a while- for the cool kids!  I love that my little bambino can rock some Cali pride!

Packing My Bags

Tomorrow morning my husband and I are off for Puerto Vallarta- and we couldn't be more excited!
While the bambino is being spoiled by his grandparents, we are planning on lots of beach and pool time, catching up on reading, cocktails, and sleeping in late.  I can't wait for my first drink at the swim-up bar!!

Have you seen the latest kid/tween craze?  Out are Silly Bands, and in are Braced-Lets!
I thought I was seeing things, but these bracelets are really made from the rubber bands and brackets that are put on braces!  A genius idea from two orthodontists!

The Scooter Pouch

Since becoming a mom my purse is constantly flooded with papers, coupons for baby products, receipts, and random notes since I can't remember anything.  I have been looking for a while for the perfect thing to stash all of it in and finally found the perfect Jonathan Adler pouch on Shopbop

It is the perfect size for putting inside my purse or diaper bag and it's cute enough just to carry as a little clutch when I need just a few things.
