It's still raining today, but I am hopeful that Spring is just around the corner.  I am all about protecting my little one from the sun and cute sun hats are starting to pop-up everywhere.  I especially love all the styles that have chin straps and hats that are reversible, like the cute ones at Janie and Jack

Rice Krispies Easter Eggs

Today my sister and I saw a commercial for the cutest Easter treat-
Rice Krispies Hidden Surprise Easter Egg Treats.
There was a nice TV mom showing the kids how to make them on the commercial- it was very easy and would be perfect to make for Easter parties.
Rice Krispy Easter Eggs
Hidden Surprise Easter Egg Treats
For the directions check out the Rice Krispies website.

*The trick to making really great Rice Krispies Treats is to follow the recipe on the marshmallow bag- not the one on the cereal box.  It has a greater marshmallow to cereal ratio- whereas the cereal box suggests more cereal than marshmallow and produces a drier treat.

It is so fun to see these women with their kids and to see inside their home lives....

Good Things

OPI Gel Color

Finally OPI has come out with gel nail polish! I can only hope that the nail salon(s) I go to will carry it.  I always get the gel polish now, but hate that I always have to guess what the colors will look like on me... Now the guessing is over.

One of many racks of dresses
Thank you notes from the high school girls
This past Saturday I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer with a friend at the Princess Project in San Francisco.  It was an amazing morning of being a personal shopper to help high school girls find the perfect prom dress.  There were hundreds of donated dresses to choose from and each girl was fitted with a beautiful gown and accessory to wear to prom.   The girls were so adorable and sweet- I can't wait to do it again next year.

Baby Jackson
Also on Saturday my baby officially began crawling.  As exciting as this is, I am realizing that he is now able to get into just about everything!  So far he has opened the TV cabinet and removed all the DVDs, pulled mama's magazines off the shelves, knocked over the waste basket, etc... I will never sit down again.  But it is so cute to watch him.

Breville Juicer at Williams Sonoma
My husband and I decided that we are going to break out the juicer again for evening juicing.  We periodically go on these kicks when we are feeling like we need to get ourselves back on track with our eating and drinking habits.  There are so many delicious options, and we feel so healthy drinking our fruits and veggies.  And who knows, maybe I can drop a pound or two while I am at it.

Pottery Barn Kids vs. Etsy

I just received the new Pottery Barn Kids catalog in the mail today and I am loving so many of the new things they are showing.
(Lots of Serena & Lily -ish pieces, but more about that later)

Anyhow- I am working on incorporating more aqua into my baby's nursery so I was drawn to the Harper Aqua Nursery in particular...
Just the other day I spotted wonderful carnival photographs on Etsy- and today I am seeing them in the PBK catalog.  It got me thinking about what else I could find on Etsy.
Here is a little comparison...

Honeytree Carnival Photo
Etsy find- $21 for 8x8 photograph or 3 for $58
Pottery Barn Kids- Fairground Framed Art
Pottery Barn Kids find: $99 for set of 3
Woven area rug in a Modern and Classy Cloud and Denton Chevron stripe in 5 ft by 8ft
House of Henderson Chevron Rug
Etsy find: $149 for 5x8 rug
Pottery Barn Kids Chevron Dhurrie Rug
Pottery Barn Kids find: $249 for 5x8 rug
Woven Reed Natural Basket Pendant Lamp Rich Carmel Walnut Stained Earth Friendly Green Bohemian Fixture
Belated Designs Woven Pendant Lamp
Etsy find: $95 for 14"x18" lamp
Pottery Barn Kids Woven Pendant Drum Light
Pottery Barn Kids find: $99 for 20.5"x12" lamp

Overall, I think Etsy has amazing finds at great prices but you take a gamble on the quality.
Pottery Barn Kids always pleases, yet can be expensive if you are decorating an entire room.
I choose PBK for furniture, but Etsy for accessories.

Bars of Joy

I am going to do you a favor and share with you the easiest thing to make in the world.
It's so easy and delicious that I can't believe I hadn't made this until this past Christmas.

Seven Layer Bar

Not the best photo, but you get the idea

preheat oven to 350

1 stick of butter melted- pour into casserole (9x13)
1 1/2 cups crumbled graham cracker- spread around on top of butter

now put each of these things on top:
1 bag chocolate chips
1 bag toffee or butterscotch chips (or any other chip)
 chopped walnuts
coconut shreds
1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk (on top)

and voila! you're done!!
now put it in the oven for 25 minutes
(I like it to get just a little golden on top)

*I make this to send with my husband to work- it is such a crowd pleaser and if it stays at home I will eat the entire thing*

Eating with Tyler Florence

Recently I purchased some pre-packaged baby food for my little one for those times we are out and about during his meal times.  I feel very strongly about preparing Baby J's food at home, but there are times when I just need to be able to throw something in my bag...

I decided to try Sprout Baby Food.
Sprout - Organic Baby Food

Sprout is Tyler Florence's company- and my baby really liked the food he tried.  I was impressed to see Tyler Florence venturing out into the baby food arena.  Aside from it being easy and organic, buying (or even browsing) baby food gives me good ideas for combinations to make at home.
Baked Sweet Potatoes & White Beans
On another note...
Back in September I took my husband for his birthday to Tyler Florence's restaurant, Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco.  We couldn't help ourselves, and ordered more than our share- deviled eggs, steak tartare, wild mushroom papardelle, macaroni and cheese, popovers, wines, etc..  it was all so delicious.  We will definitely go back for another amazing meal and we definitely are fans of Tyler Florence.

I also have one of his cookbooks, Dinner At My Place, which has some great, manageable recipes...

Imagine a Teepee

I guess teepees are trendy right now(?), or is it that I am mildly obsessed with them and therefore am noticing them everywhere?
Whatever it is- I love them and I love the idea of having a permanent teepee somewhere inside or outside of our home for Jackson to play in when he gets older.

ish and chi
My sister and I used to always build forts to play in, and even put up the tent in the backyard to play in and "camp" during the summer.  Nothing was more fun than having a secret, hidden place to play...
*It was so hard choosing pictures to post- I could have gone on and on... There are an endless amount of ideas and tutorials out there.

DIY: Modern Mobiles

I came across these fantastic mobiles that were featured on Project Wedding a while ago- I think they could be great for an inexpensive DIY project for a nursery or kids room.  I love that you could make them in any color combination to go with your decor- and they look easy to make.

Sitting Pretty

Now that we have switched to a big boy carseat, gone are the days of just popping out the infant carrier when we go grocery shopping or to restaurants...

A friend gave us an Itzy Ritzy shopping cart/high chair cover and it is my latest
must-have item.
Baby Jackson is putting his mouth on everything right now- so I love that he can sit safely without any issues of germs from the carts or chairs (because I know they are never cleaned).

JJ Cole Shopping Cart Cover Black Magnolia
I have found that not all covers are created equally.  Some are really plush, but others have no padding at all and don't fit all carts.  Since I use this almost daily, I think it is worth spending the extra money and buying a good quality one.  Happy shopping!

Glowing Goldfish

While spending the past several days in Carmel with my family, my sister found the coolest bath toy for Baby J while out shopping...

When it hits the water is starts changing colors and is so much fun to play with.  My baby loves it! Thanks Auntie!

Painting Spaces: Ami Suma

Japanese people are seriously so cool.
I came across the most amazing murals in childrens rooms and sure enough they are painted by a fabulous Japanese artist living in the US.  Her name is Ami Suma and I think her work is so beautiful and unique.  It is refreshing to see something different for children's spaces.  The third picture reminds me of It's a Small World at Disneyland so much...

Bubbly Time

so obsessed with claw foot bathtubs!
If only the bathroom in our home looked more like this and less like the turquoise hot-mess that it is, then maybe bath time would be a little more enjoyable.  Either way, my baby loves playing in the water each night.

Ah Goo Baby The Plush Pad with Memory Foam - Bubbles In Cola

The plush pad has made every bath time easier since birth.  I used it on the kitchen counter and now on the bathroom floor to set baby down before and after the bath (and I use it under my knees while leaning over the tub).

Circo Whale Bath Caddy
Circo Whale Bath Caddy
I had been thinking that I would get the really cute Boon Bug Pod, but when I realized that you had to mount it on the wall- it was a no-go.  I found this cute whale at Target- he attaches firmly with suction cups. The whale actually holds bath toys and has a compartment for bottles with great drainage.  All around it is better than the Boon one for me and half the price.
