More Tracy Anderson

A little while ago I posted about the Tracy Anderson post-pregnancy dvd... (read about it here) Well, I bought it, and got really hooked on it.  Then- I lent it to a friend to try out, and I still don't have it back.
But, I was seeing results and was really enjoying it.

Well recently I found out that Tracy is pregnant again with bambino #2 and she is making a new pregnancy dvd.  This time it will be a month by month workout to do throughout your entire pregnancy.  How awesome is that?!

Did you spot Molly Sims- looks like she is going to be in the new video.

Book Review: Dr. Seuss Pops Up!

This Friday, March 2nd will be the 15th Read Across America day.  If you have never heard of it, it is a day to celebrate reading and is always on or near Dr. Seuss' birthday- March 2nd.

This day has become a huge day for school-age children.  The school I used to teach at invites guest readers from the community to read Dr. Seuss books to the kids.

This year (since I am not teaching) I will be a guest reader.  Even though the school provides books, I will be bringing the amazing Pops Up! book.  It is seriously the best, and no one seems to have it.

It covers 7 classic titles, in a pop-up and concise way- that holds even the most squirmy child's attention.  Think: Green Eggs and Ham, Cat in the Hat, Sneetches, Fox in Socks, etc...

I learned to read with Dr. Seuss, and I plan to teach my children to read with Dr. Seuss. He is a true literary hero in my world...

If you are a fan of his (like me) check out the website www.seussville.com- it really is so much fun!

Shop Anthropologie

One of my all time favorite places to shop is Anthropologie, especially in the home section.  It makes me sad to think there are people that don't have one of their stores in their town.  Thank goodness for online shopping!

Good Things

I am not going to do a full on Oscars fashion review- they are everywhere today and I was not really overwhelmed this year.  The red carpet didn't seem to have as many major moments as in years past.  That being said there are a few good things that I would like to share from the weekend (and from the Oscars).

Leslie Mann & Judd Apatow - Oscars 2012 Red Carpet
Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow
I do have to mention that these two are one of my favorite Hollywood couples.  This mother of two looked so beautiful (especially during her live interview), she totally worked that Cavalli and the high pony was so perfect. Love them and I can't wait for the sequel to Knocked Up to come out.
Glenn Close
Glenn Close
Also,  Glenn Close looked so amazing last night in Zac Posen.  Being a woman of a certain age and having to walk the red carpet with the young things could be quite a challenge.  Not all of the veteran actresses get it right, but Glenn got it so right. I am happy for her.

Enough about Oscars.

Williams-Sonoma Rustic Vegetable Pasta Sauce
Rustic Vegetable Pasta Sauce
This weekend my mom brought over this sauce for us to try.  It was delicious!! I love the Williams Sonoma pasta sauces, especially the Puttanesca and the Vodka Sauce- this one will be added to that list. So yummy!
My best friend gave us their exersaucer and Baby Jackson absolutely LOVES this thing.  It has been so nice having something that he can play with (in) where I can walk away for a few minutes and not worry.  It's not the cutest thing in our living room, but he loves it and it makes him happy.
Striped Lounge Pants
I have a serious love affair with Baby Gap when it come to my little guys clothing. I found these lounge pants and when I got to the register they were half off.  And they are the softest pants he owns.

Expedit Madness

Apartment Therapy House Tour: Max and Peter
This photo has been making the rounds lately.  It first appeared on an Apartment Therapy house tour and caught my eye because we (like many) have the Ikea Expedit.  I would love to eventually put ours in Baby J's room.  I love how the photo shows a practical use of it in a kids room.

Supersized Ikea Expedit
Here is an Expedit times 4 in a playroom.
Such a great idea for some serious storage on a budget.  We do have 2 of them (a 4x4 and 2x4), so maybe something like this could work.  We will just need a house with bigger rooms.

This looks so well organized and I love the colors- white, green and peachy/pinks. My favorites... I wish ours looked like this considering it is currently in our living room.

Vivi Charles' Nursery
I love the use of the smaller Expedit in this nursery from one of my favorite blogs lay baby lay.  Again- well organized and practical.

Baby Boom

Every time I make baby food (in my Beaba Babycook) I think of the 80's movie Baby Boom with Diane Keaton.

After she moves to the country she gets totally carried away making applesauce for her adorable baby, and ends up starting a new business selling baby food.
BABY BOOM, Kristina/Michelle Kennedy, Diane Keaton, 1987
While I realize that my small-scale baby food making is by no means going to lead to a business venture- it is so fun to make and I can completely understand how Diane Keaton ended up with all of her cupboards full of food in this movie.
And her jars have such cute packaging- who wouldn't want it?!

Seriously Styled

Baby J and I spotted some really cute looks yesterday while shopping with a friend.  JCrew and Baby Gap never seem to fail when it comes to adorable children's clothing.

Some cute looks at JCrew for the kids- I love the sparkle bow for the little miss and the green shorts for the boy make a serious look a little more playful

Maybe for an adult spring party somewhere on the east coast (JCrew)

These clothes look more like it for kids play clothing- love the bright laces on the tennis shoes. And hot pink for the girl is a no-brainer (JCrew)

Baby Gap was looking a bit serious.  Maybe getting ready for Easter?  I am just not sure that little boys need to wear ties.  There is plenty of time for ties in the years ahead...  But I do love a little linen for the boys.

What do you think of these more serious dressed up looks for the kids?

New Mama Must-Haves

The days after Baby J was born are a total blur in my mind.  I do remember that there were certain things that really made me happy, and helped me get through those initial days and weeks.  Everyone has their own comforts in life- here were mine postpartum...

Long Sleeve V-neck Lace Trim Nursing 3 Piece Set
3-piece pajama set
A decent looking set of pajamas.  Many people came to see Baby J.  There was no way I was really getting dressed everyday. So I wore this. It it the softest fabric in the world and I feel that it is decent looking compared to the other maternity options out there.  It was great having a lounge/pajama outfit that was accommodating to the post-pregnancy body and still looked pulled together when friends came by.  I love that it came with a matching "jacket".  I actually wore it in the hospital too.
Gilligan & OMalley® Womens Side Sling Nursing Tank - Assorted Colors
Gillian O'Malley Nursing Tank
I absolutely swear by these tanks if you are nursing.  The are the most comfortable, wear with everything, live in them all day long tops.  And, they are sold at Target.  I bought expensive tanks, and I searched high and low for the right ones- these are the best.  Buy one in each color.  The entire time I nursed I wore these under everything.  In case you are wondering- the top part unsnaps to just reveal one chi-chi at a time.  So much better than lifting your entire shirt up.
Boppy Bare Naked Pillow with Sunny Day Slipcover - Multicolor
Boppy
I wasn't sure how useful it was going to be- but the Boppy really is a cool thing.  Eventhough a newborn baby is so little and light, it is nice to have some support because the baby gets heavy in your arms, especially during those middle of the night feedings.  I love our Boppy, and we still use it sometimes to support Baby J now that he is sitting upright by himself.

Vintage Bottles for Spa Products

Do yourself a favor and have some nice bath products in your shower.  Finding a moment to take a shower and enjoy it was (and still is) a luxury.  When you finally get the chance, make it worth while with some special products that make you feel good.

Some of the best advice that I received (and took) was to let people help you out.  Having my family around to help me those first few weeks was really priceless.  A thoughtful friend even came over and held Baby J just so I could take a long, hot shower.  Bliss.

Cozy Robe, Small, White
Pottery Barn Cozy Robe
Another great suggestion I read along the way was to buy yourself something new to enjoy once you get home from the hospital.  With everything that we go through in childbirth, it is nice to have something special waiting for you when you get home.  A cozy and soft bathrobe really would be the perfect welcome home present for mommy.

Newborn Must-Haves

A pregnant mom recently asked me about things she should have ready when the baby arrives.  Even as prepared as I was with all the typical things, Daddy and Grandma still had to make a few trips to find some missing pieces.  Here are some odds and ends that I liked having...

Circo® 2pk Changing Pads For Bassinet and Changing Table
Circo Changing Pads
The early days of diapering are not pretty, and having a boy there are often last minute tinkle surprises. These pads have saved me from having to wash the entire changing pad cover all the time.  I love them and still use them.

Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment - 14 oz Jar
Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment
Like I said, the early days are not pretty.  This really helped the tushy situation.  And we still use it all the time.

Kee-Ka Small Change Organics Long Sleeve Kimono
Kee-Ka Long Sleeve Kimono
Kimono style clothing is such a saving grace.  It is great to not have to struggle trying to get things over a new baby's head- and they just have a cute look to them.  Baby J wore a lot of Gerber brand kimono shirts and onesies in the early months, especially since he was born in the heat of summer.

Baby Soy Kimono Bundler
Baby Soy Kimono Bundler
These Baby Soy gowns are wonderful. They were some of the only ones that I found long enough for Baby J- and they are affordable at $14.  I also really like the Baby Gap ones, but they are not kimono style...

Dr. Brown's Clear 4 oz Bottle (3pack)
Dr. Browns Bottles
Even though I breastfed I still had to supplement a bottle the first few days... These are the bottles that most every doctor recommends.  Do yourself a favor- even if you think you will absolutely not give your baby a bottle- buy them anyways... Things happen.  Baby J had a bottle and formula the first couple days while we got the swing of things, and he still nursed for months perfectly fine.  Buy them.

Gerber Good Start 2 Gentle Plus Pwdr - 3pk
Gerber Good Start Formula
While you are at it- buy the formula.  Gerber was also recommended by my doctor and the only one that my baby tolerates.  Everyone has their preferences, but it probably is a good idea to have a little bit on hand just in case... Even if you are going to nurse.  The baby has to eat, especially if your milk doesn't come in for a few days.  And sometimes nursing just doesn't work out for everyone.  And that is okay!

sootheTIME Zzztime Snooze Wrap Plus, Sage
Swaddler
Before the Baby J was born I thought I wanted to swaddle him in those cute Aden & Anais blankets.  As cute as Baby J looked in them, he would wiggle out of them a second later.  I finally got smart and got a couple straightjacket's (swaddlers) and voila!  No more struggling to make it work. Stick the baby in, wrap 'em tight, Velcro, and no more wiggling out!!
